Spring C+C Opportunities !!

Our More Light Subcommittee will meet on May 10th in the Parlor (around 12:15 PM) to shape plans for participation in our More Light celebration (worship, marching) on June 14th. Glenda has been generously organizing the fellowship hour offerings this month. She needs your help with this Sunday’s spread! March for Darfur in DC

From Pittsburgh Presbytery:

Washington DC will be the site for a rally to urge a concerted diplomatic push to end the crisis in Darfur. Supported by the Pittsburgh Darfur Emergency Coalition, a round trip coach bus is available for $20 to take participants to the rally. The rally will be on Sunday, April 19. More Light: In May of 1997, the Session of Sixth Church declared our congregation to be a More Light church by affirming the congregation's "desire to welcome all people who seek God's grace through acceptance and trust in Jesus Christ" and by becoming a full member of the More Light Churches Network. http://www.mlp.org/list/sixth.html

East End Cooperative Ministry: Volunteers from 6th cook and serve a meal at the homeless men's shelter on the first Wednesday of each month. Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank: The mission of the GPCFB is to eliminate hunger and encourage self-reliance with the vision of building a community that makes food accessible to all people. http://www.pittsburghfoodbank.org/

Neighborhood Academy: This high school provides a strong educational background for teenagers from economically deprived areas and aids their entry into college. Sixth provides lunch several times a year and occasional study hall mentors. http://www.theneighborhoodacademy.org/

Church World Service: CWS aims to lessen the impact of hunger throughout the world. Sixth Church members and friends participate annually in the Pittsburgh CROP Walk. http://www.churchworldservice.org/

Global Links: This Pittsburgh-based organization ships donated hospital supplies all over the world. Sixth Church members volunteer once or twice monthly for two-hour shifts at this facility. http://www.globallinks.org/

A Time to Embrace: Reverend Janet Edwards' blog, where she shares her reflections on marriage, ordination, and the place of GLBT faithful in the Presbyterian Church. http://www.timetoembrace.com/

Mission Yearbook: This year's theme for the Presbyterian Mission Yearbook is "out of the believer's heart shall flow rivers of living water" (John 7:38).
